Water and nutrition

How Watering Affects Controlled-Release Fertilizer

Controlled-release fertilizer is not separate from watering. Moisture, warmth, and root activity influence how fertilizer becomes available and how the plant uses it.

Water is part of the feeding system

Excalibur granules release nutrients gradually when growing conditions support release and uptake. That does not mean the plant should stay wet. It means watering should support roots, oxygen, and a normal dry-down cycle.

Too dry and the plant may slow down. Too wet and roots may lose oxygen or become vulnerable to rot. Either condition can make fertilizer look like the problem when the real issue is moisture management.

Check before adding more

  • Is the soil drying normally?
  • Are leaves hydrated and firm?
  • Is the pot draining freely?
  • Is the plant warm and actively growing?

Moisture situations

Too wet

Do not fix wet roots with more fertilizer. Improve drainage and let roots recover.

Too dry

A dehydrated plant may not take up nutrients well. Restore steady watering before judging fertilizer performance.

Just right

Warm soil, oxygen, and steady moisture help controlled-release fertilizer do its job.
