Feeding readiness

When to Feed Excalibur and When to Wait

The best fertilizer decision starts before the scoop: is the plant warm, rooted, awake, and actively growing?

Short answer

Feed growth. Do not feed stress.

Excalibur works best when a plumeria is ready to use nutrition. Look for active leaves, firm stems, warming weather, root activity, and a watering pattern that shows the plant is taking up moisture.

If the plant is dormant, cold, rootless, overwatered, sun-starved, or recently damaged, fertilizer should wait. Correct the growing condition first, then feed when the plant can respond.

Good feeding signals

  • New leaves or active tip growth.
  • Warm nights and a stable growing season.
  • Roots are present and the pot dries at a normal pace.
  • The plant is firm, hydrated, and not recovering from rot.

When to wait

Dormancy

Dormant plumeria are not using fertilizer efficiently. Wait until growth resumes.

Root trouble

Soft stems, wet soil, and poor dry-down point to root-zone problems. Fix drainage and root health first.

Cold weather

Controlled-release fertilizer responds to warmth and moisture. Cold soil slows plant uptake.
